# 2026 Green Lantern Collection: U.S. Mint Reveals New Coins and Medals *Final artwork for John Stewart's turn in the Comic Art Coin & Medal Program is out, with a half-ounce gold coin, two silver medals and a copper-nickel medal set on the way. Release dates for the Green Lantern products are still to come.* --- The United States Mint has unveiled the finished designs for its 2026 Green Lantern products, the next chapter in the Comic Art Coin & Medal Program. The lineup centers on John Stewart, Earth's third Green Lantern, and it comes in the same multi-format structure collectors have seen since the program launched in 2025: a half-ounce 24-karat gold proof coin, a 2.5-ounce silver medal, a 1-ounce silver medal and, later, a set of three copper-nickel medals. The obverse shows Stewart flying above the Earth with his power ring glowing. The reverse is more symbolic, focusing on a raised fist and a ring that sends out a beam of light. The Mint currently lists all three of the main Green Lantern items as "coming soon." Pricing is set for the two silver medals at **$400** (2.5 oz) and **$200** (1 oz), while the gold coin's price has yet to be determined. Green Lantern is one of three DC characters in the 2026 lineup, sharing the year with Supergirl (scheduled for October 1) and Robin (expected December 3). Here is everything currently known about the products, how to buy them, and why the series has become one of the more talked-about modern releases from the Mint. --- ## Product Details at a Glance | Detail | Gold Proof Coin | 2.5 oz Silver Medal | 1 oz Silver Medal | Three-Medal Set | |---|---|---|---|---| | **Program** | Comic Art Coin & Medal Program, 2026 (Green Lantern) | Same | Same | Same (Green Lantern, Supergirl, Robin) | | **Mint Facility** | West Point | Philadelphia | Philadelphia | Denver | | **Composition** | .9999 fine (24-karat) gold | 99.9% fine silver | 99.9% fine silver | Copper-nickel (8.33% nickel, balance copper) | | **Metal Content** | 1/2 troy ounce | 2.5 troy ounces | 1 troy ounce | Not applicable | | **Approx. However, the Mint's own product page for the gold coin showed no household limit when I checked. The Mint says that it can adjust or remove limits at its discretion, so confirm the figure on the official page closer to launch. **Reference points from the 2025 issues:** The Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman releases were capped at 10,000 gold coins each and 25,000 of each 2.5-ounce silver medal. The 1-ounce silver medals had no cap. The Mint has not confirmed whether Green Lantern will follow that pattern. **Item numbers:** The Mint's product pages list the Green Lantern gold coin as 26DGG and the 2.5-ounce silver medal as 26DGS2. --- ## How to Buy: Ordering Process, Limits and Timing ### What we know about timing The Mint has not set a release date for any of the Green Lantern products. That includes the gold coin, both silver medals and the three-medal set. For context, the other 2026 Comic Art items on the calendar are Supergirl on October 1 and Robin on December 3. The first three-medal set (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman) went on sale August 3, 2026, and the Mint has not yet announced when the second set, which includes Green Lantern, will follow. ### Where to order All of these products are sold directly through the U.S. Mint's online store, on the Comic Art Coin & Medal Collection pages. Customer service can be reached at 1-800-872-6468. ### Limits - **Household order limits:** These exist to spread purchase opportunities among more buyers. The Mint says they are generally lifted one business day after a product goes on sale. As noted above, reports differ on what limit will apply to each Green Lantern item, so check the product page on release day. - **Mintage limits:** Not yet announced for any Green Lantern product. The Mint distinguishes between a mintage limit (the total number of pieces struck across all products) and a product limit (the number available in one specific product), so watch for both. ### Pricing - **Silver medals:** $400 for the 2.5-ounce piece and $200 for the 1-ounce piece. Those are higher than the launch prices for Superman in 2025, when the same two formats started at $275 and $135, so the Mint has raised silver pricing during the program. - **Gold coin:** Price to be determined. When the Superman coin launched, the Mint set an opening price of $2,710 and said it would adjust prices weekly as gold markets moved. The Mint's 2025 half-ounce Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman gold coins are currently listed at $3,470 each, which gives a rough idea of where the Green Lantern coin could land, though gold prices can change quickly. - **Three-medal set:** $130. ### Packaging The 2025 gold coins and silver medals were encapsulated and shipped in display cases with a Certificate of Authenticity, and the gold coin and 2.5-ounce medal carried numbered certificates. The Mint hasn't detailed Green Lantern packaging yet, but it would be reasonable to expect the same presentation. ### Pre-orders The 2025 launches were treated as pre-order products, with shipping following weeks later. If the Mint repeats that approach, you may pay at order time and receive your coin or medal well after launch day. --- ## Historical Background ### The Comic Art Coin & Medal Program The program debuted in 2025 as a licensed collaboration between the Mint and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. Its stated aim is to honor DC Super Heroes through original coin and medal artwork while highlighting the values those characters represent. Three characters are featured each year over three years, for nine in total: - **2025:** Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman - **2026:** Green Lantern, Robin and Supergirl - **2027:** The Flash, Batgirl and Aquaman Every character appears in the same three-piece core format (a half-ounce gold coin, a 2.5-ounce silver medal and a 1-ounce silver medal), with the same artwork carried across each. The Mint has also added a three-medal set in copper-nickel, and the first, with Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, arrived on August 3, 2026. ### The Green Lantern Character and John Stewart Green Lantern has been a fixture of DC Comics since 1940, when Alan Scott introduced the name. The best-known modern version, Hal Jordan, followed in 1959. John Stewart joined the mythos in 1971 as a Green Lantern of Earth, and in the comics he is an architect and a former Marine. He also became familiar to a wide audience through animated television. The Mint describes him as Earth's third Green Lantern and presents the character as a glowing symbol of honor and willpower. *(Character history above is general background, not drawn from the Mint's materials.)* ### The 2026 Design Selection Before anything was finalized, the Mint showed dozens of candidate Green Lantern designs to two advisory bodies in September 2025: the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC), which advises the Treasury Secretary on coin and medal themes and designs, and the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA), which evaluates artistic merit. - **Obverse:** The CCAC and CFA both preferred design O-03. Warner Bros. Discovery ranked O-01 first and O-03 second, and the final coin uses **O-01**. - **Reverse:** The panels split. The CCAC backed **R-03**, which was also Warner Bros. Discovery's first choice and became the final design. The CFA favored R-05, which showed a fist and ring emerging through the Green Lantern symbol, with a construct in the background nodding to Stewart's technical background. In other words, the finished obverse is not the one both advisory panels favored, and it matched the licensor's top ranking instead. That is worth knowing for collectors who like the process behind the artwork. The Mint has not credited individual artists in the materials available for this article. ### The Gold Coin The half-ounce .9999 fine gold coin is struck in proof finish at West Point and carries a $50 denomination. That face value is worth a note: the Mint's half-ounce American Gold Eagle carries $25, so the Comic Art coin is not a bullion-standard denomination. It is a collector product, and its price will track the gold market and the Mint's periodic adjustments. ### The Silver Medals The 2.5-ounce and 1-ounce medals are struck at Philadelphia in 99.9% fine silver with a matte finish. They are medals, not legal tender, so they use character-focused inscriptions rather than the required coin wording. ### The Three-Medal Set The set pairs Green Lantern with Supergirl and Robin in matte copper-nickel. Each medal matches a half dollar's weight, diameter and metal composition, but has a plain edge instead of a reeded one, and they use the same character art as the silver medals. They are struck at Denver, and at $130 the set costs less than a single 1-ounce silver medal, giving newer collectors a way in. --- ## Design Description The gold coin and both silver medals share the same principal artwork. The gold coin adds required U.S. coin inscriptions, while the medals swap in character-related wording. ### Obverse The obverse shows John Stewart in flight over the Earth, with his power ring illuminated. His stance, which reads as protective and shield-like, and his intent, focused look are meant to convey duty, resolve and willpower. Placing him above the planet reinforces his role as a defender of Earth. Both silver medals carry the word LIBERTY on the obverse, and the 2.5-ounce version also shows the year 2026. ### Reverse The reverse dispenses with the full figure. A raised fist takes center stage, with the ring on it projecting a beam of light. The imagery highlights the ring as the source of a Green Lantern's power, which fits the character's central idea. The advisory process considered a different reverse (R-05) that placed the fist and ring within the Green Lantern symbol, but the final design is simpler and more direct. **Inscriptions on the gold coin:** The reverse includes UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, $50, 1/2 OZ. and .9999 FINE GOLD. **Inscriptions on the medals:** Instead of the coin wording, GREEN LANTERN appears across the top where UNITED STATES OF AMERICA would be, and HONORABLE AND POWERFUL runs along the bottom. --- ## Why This Matters for Collectors **A licensed pop-culture theme on genuine U.S. Mint products.** The Comic Art program blends the hobby with comic fandom, and that overlap tends to bring new buyers into numismatics. That broader audience can influence demand for limited issues. **Limited production, but the limits are still unknown.** The 2025 gold coins and 2.5-ounce medals had firm caps, which gave collectors a clear sense of scarcity. Until the Mint publishes Green Lantern mintage numbers, buyers are working without that information. Note also that the 1-ounce silver medal was uncapped in 2025, which may affect how it trades over time compared with the capped pieces. **A short, defined series.** With nine characters over three years, collectors can plan a complete run. Green Lantern sits in the middle of the sequence, so buyers building a full set will want it. **Pricing has moved.** The 2025 silver medals launched at $275 and $135, while Green Lantern's equivalents start at $400 and $200. Anyone tracking the cost of completing the set should factor in that the price trend has been upward, along with the changing cost of the gold coin. **Multiple entry points.** From a $130 three-medal set to a gold coin priced in the thousands, the format lets collectors decide how deeply to participate. Those who want a single character in every metal can do that too. **Limits and timing reward preparation.** Order limits, unannounced release dates and weekly gold repricing all favor buyers who are set up in advance. With no dates published yet, being ready will matter. --- ## Quick-Reference Buying Guide 1. **Create or verify your U.S. Mint account** on usmint.gov well ahead of release, and make sure your shipping and payment details are current. 2. **Sign up for alerts.** Use the Mint's email and text notifications and the "Remind Me" option on the Green Lantern product pages so you learn the release dates when they are announced. 3. **Decide what you want.** The choices are the gold coin (26DGG), the 2.5-ounce silver medal (26DGS2), the 1-ounce silver medal and, later, the three-medal set. 4. **Set a budget.** Silver medals are $400 and $200, the three-medal set is $130, and the gold coin price is not yet set. Plan for gold to be priced close to the release and adjusted weekly. 5. **Check the limits on release day.** Look at the household order limit and any mintage or product limit on each product page, since reports differ and the Mint can change them. 6. **Order promptly once sales open.** If the 2025 pattern repeats, these may be pre-order products with shipping later. 7. **Watch for the calendar.** Supergirl is set for October 1 and Robin for December 3, and the Mint will announce Green Lantern's date separately. 8. **Keep the packaging and paperwork.** Retain the display case and Certificate of Authenticity, since numbered certificates came with the 2025 gold coins and 2.5-ounce medals. 9. **Contact the Mint with questions** through the online help center or at 1-800-872-6468. --- *Note: Details on release dates, prices, mintage and household limits can change.
